Well it's only been 2 months since we signed up our 1000th concurrent customer, however considering recessions and all, we do have an issue with some websites going offline from time to time. Another metric to judge our growth on is the number of customers who have ever gone live. And we have just had our 2000th website go live. This website is www.intrepidcats.com. Gregg has won himself 1 year of free web hosting.
Our next milestones/goals are to reach 1000 facebook or twitter followers and later this year it will be 10 years since we first registered our domain names for Web Widgets.
All domain registration and renewal fees have been dropped to $29/year+gst (down from $33), with discounts for long term renewals. Reseller domains now only $22/year (reseller setup fee applies).
All web hosting plans have had their traffic allowance increased. The base web hosting plan now supports 1GB traffic (up from 700MB). Our great value hosting plans include content management, shopping carts and a bulk email service, and start at only $25 per month. Most importantly, we host in NZ which is important for your search engine optimisation. Soon we will have even cheaper plans with much more traffic for sites not hosted in NZ/Ausi.
We have recently replaced our old email tell a friend page with a new tell a friend page which is connected to popular social networks.
Unfortunately we had to remove the old tell a friend forms, because they were a target for spammers. Basically the form allowed anyone to send anyone a message about anything, while being associated with your brand. That was undesireable. If you do have a specific template for your tell a friend page that you want to keep, you can easily change the layout of the page back to an "enquiry form", but it will not have the tell a friend features in it, and you will need to send those friends emails manually.
This new tell a friend page covers many more link sharing methods, including all known social networks. However, it does not have form fields, but you can customise the messages into the introduction or footer of the page. These sharing services are brought to you by www.addthis.com.
You can also add these sharing icons to your template by using the [ADDTHIS] tag, perhaps below the [CONTENT] tag might be a good place. Even if you are not into social media, it does not mean that everyone else feels the same. Why not leaverage the power of social media and let people share your links for your benefit. If you want a more custom version of the sharing icons, then create your own at the www.addthis.com website and paste into your pages or custom design template using the "Insert... Video/Widget" option.
You can now enter your own messages for your product stock availability. eg out of stock, sold, not purchaseable, running out fast, only a few left, etc... You can change this text on the pricing/stock tab under each product. You can also choose to leave the the buy button enabled, or disable it. If the stock counter runs out, the buy button will be disabled automatically. We have added 10 more priority positions to the products so you can order them on the category list pages.
Facebook is useful for more than just sharing photos and news with friends and family. It can be a great business networking tool.
First step is to tie down your privacy settings OR create a dedicated login for your business networking, and keep this separate from your personal account.
Second step is to make a "business page". If you don't see an option in facebook to make a page, then click on "ads and pages" on the left menu, then "pages" on the left of the next page. Follow directions from there.
A business page is just like an ordinary facebook profile, with it's own wall, but it keeps your business separate from your personal life. People who become fans of your business only see posts on your business wall, they will not see your own wall unless you become personal facebook friends.
The trick with social media sites like facebook is to get people talking about you. If you can encourage other people to post on your wall, then all their friends will see them do that. So if you have 100 friends who post on your wall, and each of them as 100 friends, then that is 10000 people who will see your brand and a link to your business page. Powerful stuff eh?
The same goes for when you post on other peoples/businesses walls. For this, you may wish to have a dedicated login for your business purposes.
But how do you get people to become fans of your business page? You might like to personally invite the first 25 fans, so that you can get a unique username for your business page. With a unique username, you can then create a custom URL to include in your website and on your monthly newsletter, just like ours in the top right of this email. You can post social network username into your contact us page, and this will automatically create the links.
We would also like to become fans of your business pages. As soon as you have created your business page on facebook, please post a link to it on our wall.

Not all links are equal. Remember it is more important to get quality links from reputable websites, than it is to get several links from unimportant websites. eg a link from the nzherald website is more important than a link from someones personal blog. Likewise, it is more important if someone links to you from their home page, rather than their links page, or some deep hidden pages. Reciprical links are better than nothing, but focus on other websites in your same industry or in your same city.
